FAQ

Can Dandies be kept with other pets?
A Dandie can usually live quite happily in a home with other animals, when introduced as a puppy. A sociable character, a Dandie will get along with other dogs and most cats.
Do Dandies shed?
No. A Dandie’s coat does not shed, which makes the breed suitable for some allergy sufferers.
What are Dandies like with children?
Dandies are excellent with children and usually develop a strong bond with younger members of the family.
Do Dandies need a lot of exercise?
Dandies are very adaptable. They live happily in apartments and most urban and rural settings. They need moderate exercise to stay fit and trim. Most of all, they love human company.
Are Dandies a healthy breed?
Average life expectancy is 12-14 years, with many dogs living to 15 or 16. The breed has no confirmed hereditary illnesses, but responsible breeders test for glaucoma. Dandies are as healthy as any well-bred, purebred dog.
Are Dandies noisy?
The Dandie Dinmont Terrier is not a 'yappy' breed and does not normally bark excessively. Dandies have an amazingly deep and loud bark (particularly the males), which can make them deceptively good guard dogs.
Do Dandies need a lot grooming?
Dandies need to be brushed regularly. Their topcoats allow you to brush dirt off easily. However, they probably need to be professionally groomed 3 to 4 times a year to keep them looking smart.
Are Dandie puppies hard to find?
You may have to wait for a litter to be born. Males are normally easier to find than females. Be prepared to be rigorously interviewed, as Dandie breeders are committed to finding the right home for their puppies. Once a Dandie enters your life, he will touch your heart like no 'ordinary' dog.
